LEDs – Talented technology.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are talented technology and they are considered to be the lighting of tomorrow. They are very small, robust and very effective. LEDs are increasingly establishing themselves as a fixed component of contemporary living. Using white and coloured light and an intelligent control, LEDs ensure bright illumination in the most diverse of rooms. Planners, designers and tile layers now are being handed completely new options, in combination with our newly developed light profiles, to design kitchens, bathrooms, living areas and working areas with light.

LEDs - At a glance…

  • Economical in the use of electricity, the diodes work 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
  • Efficient: one 8 Watt LED strip provides the same light output as a 60 Watt bulb.
  • Flexible in form and colour.
  • Low maintenance: assuming a daily average use of three hours, our brand-name LED products last up to 40,000 hours, which translates to 36 years.
  • Bright: LEDs generate white light and deliver more than 16 million different tones of colour.
  • Environmentally friendly: LEDs contain no poisonous mercury and, in comparison to conventional lamps, can even save up to 90 percent electricity.
  • Due to new technologies, LED colour temperatures have become suitable for living areas. Thanks to a special coating, LEDs also supply pleasantly warm-white light.
  • Suitable for moisture-rich rooms (wetrooms/bathrooms/kitchens). Our LED strips are sealed in accordance with IP65 (protection against jet water from all directions).

Good to know:

Schlüter®-LIPROTEC-ES are high-performance LEDs that have been specifically developed for use in Schlüter lighting profiles. Depending on the profiles to be used, the LED strips differ in width and illumination direction. Schlüter®-LIPROTEC-ES is available in various lighting qualities and colours (in parts also adjustable). All LEDs can be variably dimmed via the corresponding control system technology.

Schlüter®-LIPROTEC-ES are constructed such that, in interaction with our profiles and diffusers, they achieve a particularly homogenous distribution in order to look like one continuous stream of light. Therefore, this avoids the impression of a spotty "chain of lights" in the first place!

Glossary

  • IP 65
    IP 65
The protection types that apply to a housing are specified by the abbreviation IP (Ingress Protection) and a two-digit code. The digit 6 specifies: The housing is protected against access to dangerous parts that have a wire. The digit 5 specifies that the housing is protected against jet water.
  • Neutral-white
    Neutral-white
Neutral-white light has a colour temperature of 3300 - 5300 Kelvin and is mostly needed in work environments and wherever a businesslike atmosphere is desired.
  • Warm-white
    Warm-white
Warm-white or yellow-white light has a colour temperature of less than 3300 Kelvin and most people perceive it to be pleasant and cosy.

Questions and answers

  • Is it correct, that the use of luminaires is forbidden around the shower and the bathtub?

Particularly strict safety regulations apply in bathrooms and all other rooms, in which the elements of electricity and water meet each other: For the areas around the bathtub and the shower and also in the vicinity of the washbasin, luminaires must comply with the protection type IP 64 (protected against spray water). If there is any potential of jet water, for example through water jets for massage, then at least compliance with the IP 65 protection type standard (protection against jet water) is required. The protection type provides the suitability of electrical devices (for example, luminaires and installation material for various environmental conditions.

The LIPROTEC system meets all requirements. Our LED strips have been encapsulated to comply with IP 65. This means that LED strips and profiles can be utilised in the bathroom and in other rooms - in which the so-called environmental moisture could meet the LED technology - without any problems.
Only the power supply units, the receiver and switches must be placed outside of Zones 1 and 2.

  • Are there LEDs that provide a nice white light, they always appear to be bluish?

Due to new technologies, LED colour temperatures have become suitable for living areas. Thanks to a special coating, LEDs also supply pleasantly warm-white light.

All LEDs can be variably adjustably dimmed via the corresponding control system technology.
